Local Flavor: NEIGHBORHOOD FIX

Fletcher’s: There’s nothing we ladies at Lakum love more than some quality, down-home BBQ. We love barbecue so much it’s practically a tenet of the Lakum ethos and there’s nothing we enjoy more than kicking back with a plate of ’cue, and a nice cold drink in our favorite borough - Brooklyn. Conveniently located a mere 4 blocks from our office, this pit smoked barbecue joint is one of our main post-work go-tos.

Canary in the Coal Mine: Those of you who know us know we can’t go an afternoon (or morning, or… most of the day) without a cup of coffee. Thankfully our neighbors and friends at Canary in the Coal Mine are set up every day at Lowlands bar on 3rd Avenue. With a picturesque backyard and the best staff EVER, we wander in there every time we are in need of a caffeine fix.

Four and Twenty Blackbirds: This list wouldn’t be complete without some seriously delicious dessert. Lucky for us, our office is just a stone’s throw from the epic pie shop, Four and Twenty Blackbirds. The perfect place to meet for a morning pow-wow or an afternoon sugar fix of Black Bottom Oat and Salty Honey slices.

Local Flavor: Floral Design

Though we don’t have much of a green thumb, here at Lakum, we’re kind of obsessed with florals in all forms (have you seen our Instagram?) We hand-picked some of our local faves to share with all our would-be brides and flower fanatics.

Rebbeca Shepherd Floral Design: Rebecca Shepherd Floral Design is a Brooklyn based boutique and event florist that thrives on the opportunity to create art with flowers, props, and vessels. Okay, we’re biased because our office sits right above Rebecca’s beautiful shop and we get to see her creations every day.

Fox Fodder Farm: this Brooklyn based floral design studio works to create an atmosphere and aesthetic that is not only unique to their customer’s vision but compliments their tastes. While they always have an assortment of interesting flowers from all over the world, their space is one where customers (or potential brides) can have a conversation about season and source and trust that they’re in good hands.

Sprout: NYC-based floral and event design, Sprout Home offers a full range of services for weddings and events of all sizes. Whether you want organic herb sprigs placed on each menu card or an entire ceiling adorned in vines, their floral design team specializes in constructing flawless events from start to finish.

Local Flavor: NY Distilleries

Here at Lakum, our favorite way to relax at the end of a hard day is by kicking back with a glass of quality bourbon, neat. on the rocks is fine too, if that’s your thing. And if you love brown liquor like we do, you might consider hosting your big day at the place where it all comes together. Distilleries and wineries are among the chicest places to get married right now, and what could be better than imbibing spirits made on-premises, surrounded by your favorite people? We rounded up a few of our local faves for your big day inspo.

Kings County Distillery:  An iconic distillery located in the heart of the Brooklyn Navy Yard, this spot (opened in 2010) became the first distillery to operate in the city post-Prohibition. Wedding guests can mingle over cocktails amid 2,500 open, airy square feet of copper stills and fermentation tanks, before heading upstairs to the 1,600-square-foot, exposed-brick barrel room, where a host of whiskies and bourbons are aged.

Tuthilltown Spirits: If you’re seeking an escape from the city, Tuthill House in Gardiner N.Y. offers picturesque views of the Shawangunkill River and the soothing flow of water as nature’s soundtrack to your special day. Specializing in small-batch spirit production, Tuthill distills some of the Hudson Valley’s most prized bourbon.

Brooklyn Winery:  Second only to our love of bourbon, wine carries some weight as our wedding beverage of choice. Located just off the Bedford L in the heart of Williamsburg, Brooklyn Winery is a uniquely chic space featuring their wines as a chic AF backdrop to any wedding day.  The space itself is decorated with reclaimed wood and hand-selected vintage adornments to be enjoyed while sipping your favorite blend.

City Winery: Located in SoHo’s Hudson Square, City Winery brands their modular space as a slice of “Urban wine country”.  Leaving the hustle and bustle of New York behind (kind of), the rustic interior, high ceilings and exposed wooden beams, all create an atmosphere in which your guests are transported to a world all their own.
